Every painting begins with a moment worth preserving. We combine modern creative technology with traditional studio techniques to transform your photograph into an individually created work of art.

01 — SHARE YOUR PHOTOGRAPH

Every piece begins with a photograph that means something to you. Upload your favorite image when placing your order, or email it directly to Painted Paper Hearts, along with a few sentences describing what you would like us to capture, change, emphasize, or preserve.

02 — DEVELOP THE COMPOSITION

Your photograph and instructions are used to develop the composition with the assistance of AI and digital creative tools. This allows us to refine the image, explore details, and create clearly defined areas that will later guide the application of watercolor, colored pencil, pastel, and other traditional materials.

AI is a tool in our creative process, not the finished product.

03 — TRANSFER THE ARTWORK

Once the composition is complete, it is printed and transferred by hand using a professional lightboard. Important contours, features, shadows, and details are carefully traced to create the foundation upon which the physical artwork will be built.

This is where the digital process ends and the hands-on creation begins.

04 — CREATED BY HAND IN THE PPH STUDIO

The piece then comes to life by hand in the Painted Paper Hearts studio. Each work is built layer by layer using professional Winsor & Newton watercolors, sable brushes, artist-grade colored pencils, pastels, and other materials selected for the individual piece.

Colors are blended, details refined, textures developed, and features strengthened gradually. Access to a full range of traditional studio materials allows each piece to dictate what it needs rather than forcing every image through exactly the same technique.
